Manufacturing Process
(1) Raw Material Preparation
Material Selection: High-quality needle coke and coal tar pitch are used as primary raw materials to ensure excellent conductivity and mechanical strength.
Mixing & Blending: The coke and binder (pitch) are homogenized in precise ratios for consistent composition.
(2) Forming Process
Extrusion Molding: A hydraulic extruder shapes the mixture into cylindrical green electrodes.
Vibration Molding (Optional): Used for UHP-grade electrodes to enhance density and uniformity.
(3) Baking & Graphitization
Low-Temperature Baking (300-800°C): Removes volatiles and stabilizes the structure.
High-Temperature Graphitization (2500-3000°C): Conducted in Acheson furnaces or continuous graphitization furnaces to transform carbon into high-purity graphite, reducing resistivity.
(4) Machining
Turning: CNC lathes precision-machine the outer diameter and ends (±0.1mm tolerance).
Threading: Specialized milling/CNC machines cut 3/4-taper or 1/5-taper threads for secure connections.
(5) Surface Treatment
Anti-Oxidation Coating (Optional): Al-Si or phosphate coatings applied to resist high-temperature oxidation.
Quality Control: Ultrasonic testing (UT), resistivity checks, and flexural strength tests ensure compliance.
Applications
(1) Steelmaking
Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF): Ideal for HP/UHP steelmaking in medium-to-large furnaces (200-300mm electrodes).
Ladle Furnaces (LF): Used for secondary steel refining to improve purity.
(2) Non-Ferrous Metal Smelting
Copper/Aluminum/Zinc Alloys: Serves as conductive electrodes in induction/submerged arc furnaces, resistant to molten metal corrosion.
(3) Industrial Silicon & Ferroalloys
Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF): Produces silicon metal, ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, and ferrochrome under high current density (20-30 A/cm²).
(4) Specialty Materials
Calcium Carbide (CaC₂) Production: Key conductive component in high-temperature furnaces.
Yellow Phosphorus, Corundum, Boron Carbide: Suitable for high-temperature chemical reactors.
(5) Other Industrial Uses
Graphitization Furnace Heating Elements: Processes carbon materials.
Lab High-Temperature Furnaces: Research-grade applications (e.g., CVD reactors, sintering furnaces).
